Now, in 2014, I feel like the innovation may have shifted somewhat in the other direction. When I made the switch to Mac in 2007, I was blown away by how advanced OSX was compared to XP/Vista. So, does anyone have any ideas? Is this impossible in OSX? Does no one else want a computer that doesn't turn into a jet engine when trying to run a game? The most promising thing I've found is trying to turn off CPU cores, but this seems less than ideal, and I'm uncertain if it will achieve the desired result (while I can easily accept a 10% drop in performance, a 50-75% drop in performance would be more difficult to accept). My googling has turned up a couple things, like speedstep and voodoo power, which all show no activity since 2010.
Is there any way to do something similar on OSX? So, I go back to my 2013 macbook air (mavericks), and I load up starcraft 2, and the fans start spinning up after a couple minutes on the intro screen (!).
